The HP LaserJet PRO MFP M377dw Review


Newly released by HP the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M377dw is aimed at small to medium enterprises with workgroups of from 3-19 users. With a print speed of up to 24 pages per minute in both colour and black and white and with a first page out time of less than 10 seconds, it is claimed to be the fastest in its class.


More and more a printer is becoming the communications hub of an organisation, and with copying, scanning and email capabilities as well as mobile printing making it accessible from mobile devices, the HP LaserJet Pro M377dw is far more than just a colour laser printer.

Using the latest HP JetIntelligence laser technology it offers a higher page yield and lower energy consumption that before. It also decreases the overall size of the unit than before, making this the smallest Multi-Function Printer in its class.

JetIntelligence Explained

High productivity and versatility are key to business success and with the ability to perform multiple tasks quickly and simply this MFP certainly permits high productivity levels to be attained and maintained.

With two input paper trays, the main tray with a capacity of 250 sheets and an additional multipurpose tray with a capacity of up to 50 sheets, printing can be maintained. However, for very heavy print loads an optional input tray is also available with a capacity of 550 sheets, giving a total of 850 sheets.

The output tray has a capacity of 150 sheets.

To minimise paper usage automatic duplex printing is a standard feature. A large range of paper sizes and weights can be used as feedstock.

Connectivity is a key factor for users these days and the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M377dw. It can be hardwired into a network by way of a built in Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000 connection as well as wireless capability through the built in Wi-Fi  offering full secure Wireless Direct Printing.

Other connectivity is through a Hi-Speed 2.0 Port and an easy access USB.


The Mobile Printing facility offers HP e-print, Apple AirPrintTM . The printer is MopriaTM certified to give direct printing from an Android phone as well as Google Cloud Print 2.0 and through Mobile Apps.

Instruction input is by a 10.9 cm, adjustable touchscreen with swipe and gesture control.


The scanner can be fed two ways; by Automatic Document Feeder with a capacity of up to 50 sheets, or a flatbed with a scan area pf 216 x 297 mm.

In addition to scanning to paper the MFP can digitally send direst to email, folder of USB drive. The scanner has a scan speed of up to 26 pages per minute in B&W and 21 ppm in colour. And it supports both PDF and JPG formats.

The copier is also fed from the ADF or flatbed and can be preset for up to 99 copies from the touchscreen at a resolution of up to 600dpi in both colour and B&W and at a speed of 24 copies per minute.

The unit uses four HP 410A LaserJet Toner cartridges. The Black has a page yield of up to 2,300 pages and the Cyan, Magenta and Yellow HP 410A LaserJet Toner Cartridges will produce up to 2,300 pages each as well.

For even greater economy the HP 410X High Yield LaserJet toner cartridges will, print up to 6,500 pages and the HP 410X LaserJet colour toner cartridges will print up to 5,000 pages each.

The lower melt point of the toner means that the fuser wire operates at a lower temperature. This results in significant power savings. In full print mode the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M377dw uses 560W which drops back to just 19W at ready status. Additionally the Auto On/Auto off feature when the task is finished reduces power consumption even more with just 1W being consumed.

When fully closed up the MFP needs just 416 x 472 x 400 mm (W x D x H) and a maximum of 416 x 472 x 400 mm (W x D x H) when fully opened. The unit weighs 23.2 kg.
