Many customers often gasp at the price of printer cartridges and wonder why such a simple item can sometimes cost a surprising amount. The truth of it is that there are so many types of cartridges on the market and not all of them are genuine; understanding the difference can help customers to justify the cost when it comes to replacing your stock of printer cartridges.
Having the right equipment for your printer is just as important as choosing the right printer in the first place. Original printer cartridges are often more expensive than other types, but for good reason. They are manufactured by the same brands that create your printers like HP, Canon and Epson. Other types of printer cartridges, including compatible, replicate or remanufactured cartridges, are made by third parties.
So, what’s so great about Original cartridges? Why do we only sell OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges to our customers?
Quality and reliability
Original cartridges are made by the big printing brands specifically for their printers. In other words, buying a HP Original cartridge means that it will work flawlessly in your HP printer, with no problems or frustrations.
Compatible cartridges are merely copies and as such, they won’t achieve as high a level of quality as the Original kind. Thanks to the careful manufacturing of Original cartridges, you know exactly what you’re getting each and every time. Compatible cartridges may be much cheaper, but is it really worth cutting corners?
HP carried out a study in 2007 to really test the difference between a branded cartridge and remanufactured cartridges. The results, even 10 years ago, showed that OEM cartridges outperformed the remanufactured ones in both quality and reliability. This particular study demonstrated that there were actually no reliability failures with the Original cartridges, and an average of 95% of sample pages were acceptable for use.
When a range of remanufactured cartridges from a number of manufacturers and suppliers were tested, using exactly the same benchmarks the difference between Original and Remanufactured cartridges were stark and clear. When the compatible and remanufactured cartridges were tested, against exactly the same benchmarks 80.1% failed the test against less than 2% of the Original Printer Cartridges.
The beauty of Original cartridges is that the manufacturers have the best resources to invest in R&D, in order to improve their products. This includes improving ink quality, better fade resistance and longer life. Manufacturers often also look at enhancing definition of your image printouts.
Both inkjet and laser printing technologies are the result of intensive, and expensive, research and development. Since their introduction further research and development in both technologies has led to ever higher quality printing, longer life for the cartridges to enhance the quality of the printing results that you get. Any R&D undertaken by the compatible and remanufactured cartridge manufacturers is spent purely in an effort to copy the innovations introduced by the Original Cartridge Manufacturers. When you come down to it a compatible or a remanufactured cartridge is merely a copy, an imitation of the real thing. If you want an Omega watch you can buy the real thing and it will last, keeping perfect time and staying as good as it was the day that you bought it. Or you can buy a cheap knock off Omiga Watch in Hong Kong and its appearance will soon fade, it will stop keeping perfect timed in a little while and be totally unfit for purpose far sooner than the real thing.
As Original Printer Cartridges are designed with your printer in mind, printing will never have been so easy. With precise colours, 70% of print quality comes from the toner cartridge, so it needs to be genuine.
Manufacturers of Original printers also have the resources to ensure such products are a sustainable option. In a world where we’re encouraged to recycle as much as we can, and be aware of the environment in our day-to-day lives, something as small as printer cartridges can even add up.
With so many empty cartridges ending up in the landfill every year, here at Cartridges Direct we want to make sure we’re making a conscious effort to change this. Manufacturers of Original cartridges help to ensure that they are ethically recycled; this means zero waste going to the landfill!
So, to say they are a little more expensive than other cartridges is a small price to pay to make sure you are getting quality, sustainable printer cartridges!
